LOCAL RESIDENT/FELLOW EDUCATION
Have worked with residents every day of week in both clinics and operating rooms for the past 14 years. Resident and sports fellows have rotated with me on my service since I began my practice and have actively taught them without any lapse. I will perform surgery every Monday on patients at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital and either 3rd year or 5th year orthopaedic residents will perform these surgeries with my assistants as the attending surgeon. On Tuesday and Thursday of each week, I will evaluate patients in my clinic at the University of Utah every week and there is either an intern, second year orthopaedic resident, or sport medicine fellow in clinic evaluating patients with me every week. Residents will be taught clinical examinations, radiologic evaluation and appropriate non-operative management of patients with shoulder and elbow disorders. Patients will be indicated for surgical repair as well in clinic. Residents and fellows will participate actively in all parts of the clinical visits. On Wednesdays and Fridays, I will operate at the University with an orthopaedic resident or fellow and they will actively participate in all aspects of surgical care including preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative. Surgical techniques are taught daily in the operating room to the residents and fellows.
